A SONG OF MR. JAGO

(To be sung to the tune of the Irish folk song "Blarney Rose")

IF YOU HAD A TEACHER WHO WOULD KICK A SOCCER BALL

AND HIS LAST NAME WAS JAGO AND HIS FIRST NAME WAS PAUL

THEN YOU KNOW OF A MAN WITH THE BALL SKILLS TO BOAST,

AND A VINTAGE B.M.W. IN WHICH HE LIKED TO COAST

AN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIAN BORN AND BRED

WITH THE KIDS UP THERE HE HAD MAD STREET CRED.

BUT TO MARYLAND HE CAME WHEN HE ANSWERED THE CALLING

EVEN THOUGH THE HUMIDITY HERE WAS DOWN-RIGHT APPALLING

AND UNLIKE HIS TWIN BROTHER WHO MOVED HERE TO BEAT US

THE HIP MR JAGO HAD A PASSION TO TEACH US

ENGLISH, MATH, SCIENCE, & HISTORY

HOW HE DID THE JOB OF SEVEN TEACHERS, TO ME IS STILL A MYSTERY

EVERYDAY IN THE CLASS HE WOULD PUT ON A GREAT SHOW

AND ONE YEAR, IF YOU RECALL, HE EVEN PLAYED A BANDITO

FROM THAT GOOFY LAUGH THAT IS SO UNFORGETTABLE

TO HIS ATTEMPTS AT A BRITISH ACCENT THAT ONE MIGHT CALL "REGRETTABLE"

MR JAGO WAS OUR TEACHER AND A RENAISSANCE MAN

AND STILL, TO THIS DAY, I'LL ADMIT… I'M A FAN

Nick Jago is a British artist/musician, born in Abadan, Iran and raised in Devon, England. He studied at the Winchester School of Art for a couple of years before moving to the San Francisco Bay area. He now lives in Los Angeles. Jago was the drummer for the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club since its inception in 1998.

Jago was removed from the stage at the 2003 NME Awards during a rather extensive moment of silence on his part while he accepted the "Best Video" award for BRMC's "Whatever Happened to My Rock 'n' Roll (Punk Song)." After leaving the group for a period of time, Jago and the band went on to release their latest album Baby 81 in May 2007.

In June 2008, Jago released a bulletin on MySpace stating that he was leaving the band in order to focus on a solo career.
